Curious about Curiosity?

satellite dishesInterested in research about life on Mars and what scientists are working on to find out? Claire Locke, a Dialog engineering content expert, offers some search suggestions.

The design of a reconnaissance vehicle that could provide evidence of past life on Mars has been the topic of ongoing scientific discussion. For a number of years, scientists have been launching satellites and rovers into space to find evidence of life on the planet. Over time the engineering challenges for designing a rover that could identify minerals, “follow the water,” and find evidence of magnetic patterns have been considerable. In order to conduct a comprehensive search on NASA's Curiosity rover mission to Mars, Claire chose the following Dialog databases:

  • Aerospace and High Technology Database, File 108 (covers news and hard science)
  • Ei Compendex®*, File 8 (covers engineering design)
  • Inspec®*, File 2 (covers circuits and physical quantities)
  • GeoRef*, File 89 (covers extraterrestrial geology)

*Databases also available on ProQuest Dialog

She then conducted a simple search to find documents on Curiosity's mission to Mars. Her search statement ensures both terms are in the same sentence in any order: s curiosity(7n)mars

Here is a sample of titles retrieved from each file:
