IPCR/8 : Classification Attributes

Dialog Databases and IPCR/8

Classification Attributes (IA=)

Each IPCR/8 classification code is also accompanied by a series of attributes or properties of the classification. The IPCR/8 classification attributes can be searched using the IA= prefix.

Attribute

Valid Attribute Codes

Classification Level A = Advanced C = Core S = Subclass
Classification Value I = Inventive

N = Non-Inventive

Position F = First

L = Later

Status B = Basic (similar in concept to "main") R = Reclassified V = Various corrections
Version Date Version date of the classification code used
Action Date When classification code assigned
Assigning Source H = Human M = Machine propagation G = Generated by software
Assigning Office Two-character code

The attributes can be linked to the IPCR/8 classfication codes (IC=) with the (S) operator and quotes around the IC= term, e.g.,

    S IA=F (S) IC="A61K-0031/198"

IPC codes are automatically "cascaded" on Dialog, that is, all codes are indexed in several ways: by the complete code (A61K-0021/198); by first four digits (A61K); and by the first four digits + group (A61K-0021). It is possible to search for Attributes across all codes that start with the same coding, as in the following examples:

    S ICA=C12Q (S) IA=F
    S IC="D01D-0005" (S) IA=I

Dialog is not case-sensitive, nor does it matter whether the IA= term comes first or last in the search statement. The following searches produce the same results:

    S IC="B60D-0001/60" (S) IA=I
    S ia=i (s) ic="b60d-0001/60"

The IPCR/8 classification codes and attributes are displayed in a tabular format as shown.
