Adis databases offer the most comprehensive and objective, evidence-based information on clinical pharmacology, drug development, pharmacoeconomics, drug safety and medical biotechnology. These files should be the first stop for the serious researcher. You will learn more about these to databases in the overview that follows. The databases are free files of the month on Dialog for August.
Slide 2
Adis databases, produced by Wolters Kluwer Pharma Solutions, contain information to help you effectively monitor competitor pipelines, evaluate products in development, assess commercial potential of upcoming products, identify drug safety events and find and evaluate precise trial evidence. You will learn more about each of the Adis files: Adis R&D Insight, Adis Cinical Trials Insight and Adis Newsletters in this overview.
Slide 3
Adis R&D Insight (File 107), a global pipeline database, provides key product facts and development status for some 26,000 drugs in active R&D worldwide from the earliest laboratory report to market launch. Every scientific or commercial development advancing the drug's progress to market is assessed, evaluated, and reported in the records. R&D Insight contains the generic name, synonyms, brand names, developing companies, development phases by indication and country, adverse events, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, therapeutic trials, development history and Adis's own unique therapeutic value rating. The file mainly covers drugs from 1995 to the present and is updated weekly.
Slide 4
Adis R&D Insight is an important database to monitor the progress of competitors' R&D programs, evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of compounds, access the commercial potential of upcoming products, identify potential licensing opportunities, track the development of more than 3,000 pharmaceutical and biotech companies and much more.
Slide 5
One of the best ways to judge clinical evidence is through clinical trials. Adis Clinical Trials Insight (File 173), the second free file for August, is a leading source of in-depth and up-to-date global clinical trial data. The database presents highly structured records of key papers, published in more than 1,300 international medical and biomedical journals. It includes not only difficult-to-monitor ongoing studies, but also all studies presented at the top 100 meetings and published in the top medical journals. The database is updated weekly and covers 1990 to the present.
Slide 6
You can use Adis Clinical Trials Insight to new and important clinical evidence from specific trials, access the merits of combination therapies, see clinical trial outcomes, uncover evidence presented at recent meetings, locate relevant clinical trials and more.
Slide 7
Records in R&D Insight and Clinical Trial Insight are full of information about the drugs from launch to market and all aspects of the clinical trials. Review the records carefully later in this overview to see their complete content.
Slide 8
The Adis Newsletters database contains all the news and full-text articles from the following three newsletter publications: Inpharma® (INP) covering from 1983-2008; Reactions (REA); and Pharmacoeconomics & Outcomes News (PON). Adis Newsletters is divided into two files - daily and current information (File 428) and archival material dating back to 1982 (File 429). Adis Newsletters is compiled from more than 2,300 of the world's biomedical journals and from Adis journalists who report directly from the world's most important international medical meetings, conferences, and symposia. Material from over 80 Japanese journals is also monitored and translated.

The following example illustrates the type of information you can find in Adis R&D Insight (File 107). The first part of the record contains the drug name, synonyms and WHO and EPHMRA ATC codes assigned by the European Pharmaceutical Marketing Research Association to describe the therapeutic use of the product, as well as the mechanism of action. The Originator Company in this case in China and the parent company are given. The highest phase of development and what the development is for--cancer tumors are listed.
Slide 10
The record continues with information about the company, the trial and subjects and more. The pharmacology overview and clinical overview are also given.
Slide 11
This next example comes from Adis Clinical Trials Insight (File 173). This record is on the therapeutic use of gabapentin for restless legs syndrome. The bibliographic information includes the Adis and original titles, date of publication, authors and corporate source, journal name and therapeutic area. The meeting and study names are also available.
Slide 12
Details of the clinical trial are given including the dosages for gabapentin and results highlights.
Slide 13
Additional details about the study contain an assessment comment from Adis, the purpose of the study and study specifics. The companies XenoPort and GlaxoSmithKline are also provided.
Slide 14
The final part of the record provides subject details, treatment used and results. Descriptors are given and ATC codes. There is also a link to R&D Insight database.
Slide 15
This last record comes from File 428 Adis Newsletters. The title, journal name and publication date are listed along with a summary of the article. Descriptors provide other keywords.
