Slide 1
Do you have certain favorite databases you wish to search first? For example, perhaps you want to limit your initial search to three major engineering databases, such as Inspec®, Ei Compendex® and NTIS: Technical Information Service. All it takes is a couple of steps in Preferences to create and save your own permanent database shortcut, which will always be there for you when you want to use it. You can save time and energy and bring new efficiency to your searching.
Slide 2
To create a shortcut, press Preferences after logging on to ProQuest Dialog™. Click the Database Shortcuts tab. Press Add shortcut.
Slide 3
Enter a name and then scroll down the list of databases to check off the files you wish to store in your own engineering group of databases. To make file selection easier, click View by Industry.
Slide 4
Press the plus sign next to Engineering & Technology. Now scroll down this shorter list of files and check the boxes for Inspec®, Ei Compendex® and NTIS. If you wish, you can even make this cluster your default database group upon logging on to ProQuest Dialog.
Slide 5
Now click Search.
Slide 6
Click Databases and choose My Shortcuts on the top bar. Now click your database group name.
Slide 7
Click Databases and choose My shortcuts on the top bar. Click your group name.
Slide 8
Now, see in the navigator line that you are now searching three databases. You are ready to search your own engineering content cluster.
Slide 9
To wrap up and review what you learned about creating your own database shortcuts: on any search screen, click Preferences. Create a My Research account if you have not done so. Set up your cluster of preferred databases by clicking Add shortcut. Click Search and Databases. Select My shortcuts and click the Cluster you want to search. You're now ready to start your search.
