How do you find the right terminology for Inspec® Classification Codes on ProQuest Dialog? Do you use Thesaurus or Look up? Follow the next slides and find out.
Slide 2:
On the Command Line Search form click Look up terms. Choose Look up Classification code.

Enter a term or browse the Classification Code categories below. For example, if you want to find articles about semiconductor integrated circuits, expand B — Electrical & Electronics. Then expand B2000 Components, electron devices and materials.

Drill down through the list and find B2570 Semiconductor integrated circuits. Click Add to search.
Slide 5:
ProQuest Dialog enters the search onto the Command Line Search form. Note that the syntax is field code followed by the Classification Code within parentheses.
Perhaps you are looking for only recent articles. Use the date limiter to specify a date range, such as last three years.
Slide 6:
In Command Line Search use the building-block approach to search for additional concepts and then combine search sets. Having built two search sets, enter S1 and S2 and click Search.

Results appear and you can select records to view or narrow results further.
Slide 8:
Perhaps you want to make the Classification term the major focus of the article. On the Command Line Search form click Look up terms and choose Look up Major classifications.

Enter keywords for classification names, for example, integrated circuit. Check off the box(es) for the term(s) you wish to search as major concepts of the articles retrieved. The system searches multiple choices as OR. Click Add to search.

The system enters the search statement on the Major classification code (MJCC). Click Search.
Slide 11:
Specifying major Classifications resulted in highly relevant retrieval. Browse results and select records to view or email or download.

In Advanced Search you can get to Look up Classification code by using the field drop list and choose Classification — INSPCC. Click Look up Classification code. You can qualify to major focus of the article by choosing Major classification — MJCC and click the link to look up Major classifications.

And so, to review: you can find Classification codes and names in Command Line Search by clicking Look up terms. To find Classification codes, click Look up Classification code. To find the terms and qualify to major focus of the article click Look up Major Classifications.
In Advanced Search, use the fields drop list and choose Classification or Major classifications.
