ProQuest Dialog At a Glance

Post-Processing

Slide 1
This ProQuest Dialog™ At a Glance short module shows how to gather, organize and save your search results and it demonstrates the ease with which you can create professional-grade documents.

Slide 2
On ProQuest Dialog you do much more than search and retrieve. You have the tools to organize and save your data to be able to analyze, deduce implications, and present your work with a minimum of post-processing. The ability to export records or save as file will save you a lot of time in making your findings presentable to your clients. An important benefit is the ability to include your search strategy when you save to html, pdf, rich text format and text.

Slide 3
To download your data, press the Export/Save icon on your Results page. Export and Save functions include exporting to RefWorks or another bibliographic-management software, Excel, DataStar Tagged format, RIS or XML and saving in PDF, HTML, RTF and text.

Slide 4
Create a search, whether in Basic, Advanced or Command Line search. This search in Advanced Search on multiple sclerosis and back pain takes place in four key biomedical files: BIOSIS Previews®, Embase®, MEDLINE® and SciSearch®: A Cited Reference Science Database. When you have entered your search strategy, press Preview result counts if you wish to see how many records your strategy will find and continue with more searching, or press Search if you wish to run the search and go directly to the Results page.

Slide 5
You have created your first search set, S1. From the Advanced Search form, you can export your entire search strategy at any time. Click Export all searches. This example shows the strategy displayed in Rich Text Format. The document contains the date and time that you downloaded your strategy (not shown here).

To get from here to the Results page, click the hyperlinked strategy for S1.

Slide 7
On the Results page, browse titles and decide which records you wish to keep to work with during the session. You have the option to download all results and your search strategy if you wish and the number of retrieved records is manageable. More typically, you can save or export records you have selected. Click Export/Save. If you wish to include your search strategy, choose a Save as file function, such as PDF, RTF, HTML or Text.

Slide 8
A dialog box opens. Choose how much of the record you wish to include, whether just titles, publication date and database or brief citation with partial indexing or the citation and abstract with full indexing. Choose the file format, such as PDF, and make sure the box to include your recent searches is checked off if you wish to download your search strategy. Press Continue to proceed.

Slide 9
If you are a transactional customer you will see a price preview. Press Continue to proceed.

Slide 10
The download is complete and a dialog box opens where you can follow browser open or save functions. Once you have opened or saved the PDF document, close this page.

Slide 11
When you download in PDF, HTML or Rich Text Format, you get a date- and time-stamped cover page and a table of contents that links to the records you have downloaded. What’s more your links to your company’s e-journal subscriptions appear, as long as your library’s administrator has set this up in ProQuest Administrator Module.

Slide 12
The Table of Contents contains links to the records retrieved.

Slide 13
The search strategy typically appears on page 3 following the Table of Contents.

Slide 14
And next come the downloaded selected records.

Slide 15
Let’s look at exporting records. Press Export/Save to export to Excel.

Slide 16
Export to Excel. Choose the display format and the destination for Excel and press Continue.

Slide 17
The resulting spreadsheet, following some quick tailoring with row sizes and hiding some columns, such as accession numbers, allows you to give an overview of scientific, technical, medical review articles and available treatments, authors and dates.

Slide 18
If you subscribe to RefWorks or other citation management tools, you can use the export feature and choose the appropriate destination, such as RefWorks. Decide how much of the record content you wish to export. Click Continue.

Slide 19
A new window opens with a login screen to RefWorks. Enter your RefWorks Group Code and press Go to Login.

Slide 20
Enter your RefWorks Login Name and Password and press Login.

Slide 21
RefWorks indicates it has completed the import of X number of references. Click View Last Imported Folder.

Slide 22
Your references appear. You can view the references, select and store them in folders and work with them as desired.

Slide 23
In a matter of seconds you can select relevant records and produce professional-grade documentation to support your findings and conclusions. Export to Excel, RefWorks or other citation-management software, DataStar Tagged format, RIS or XML; Save as file PDF, HTML, Rich Text Format or text.
