Annual Reloads on ProQuest Dialog: Embase, Embase Alert and EMCareThe Embase®, Embase® Alert and EMCare® annual reloads are now completed on ProQuest Dialog with the new Emtree thesaurus. All three databases include 2013 Emtree vocabulary terms.
New and changed terms in the last year; available in the 2013 Emtree thesaurus
If you have Alerts or RSS feeds in these databases, you may want to consider updating the search strategies to take into account changes in the Emtree thesaurus for 2013. The 2013 Emtree vocabulary is available in the thesaurus look up tool on Advanced and Command Line search in ProQuest Dialog. Unlike the main Embase database, neither Embase Alert nor EMCare support qualifiers; these are shown to be available within the thesaurus (as the same thesaurus is used in all three databases). However, if you try to combine an Emtree term with one or more qualifiers, it will retrieve zero hits. Note also in Embase Alert, Emtree terms are applied programmatically based on a machine-scan of the title and abstract. When the same record is moved to the main Embase database, it is reindexed by a subject matter expert and additional/more appropriate Emtree terms are applied. Qualifiers are also applied to put Emtree terms into context — e.g., adding ETIOLOGY as a qualifier to DIABETES MELLITUS, to indicate the article is specifically about the causation of diabetes mellitus. |
