Roy MartinCary, NC -- November 15, 2000: Thomson Legal & Regulatory today announced that Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer Roy M. Martin, Jr. has been named president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Dialog, a Thomson company. Martin replaces Pat Sommers, who has resigned from the company.

Dialog was acquired by The Thomson Corp. (TSE: TOC) in May of this year. Brian H. Hall, president and CEO of Thomson Legal & Regulatory, said Martin brings proven executive management, marketing and operational expertise to Dialog, which will be critical to strengthening the Dialog business and brand with customers around the world. "Dialog is one of the world's premier information services brands and is viewed as an important asset for Thomson," Hall said. "Roy has been a key architect of the critical strategic initiatives that have established Thomson Legal & Regulatory as a worldwide leader in legal e-information and solutions. His expertise and leadership will ensure that we maximize the full potential of the Dialog business, as well as leverage the marketing and product synergies between Dialog and our other Thomson companies."

Martin has concentrated on information services and technology businesses for much of his career. Since 1998, he has been responsible for global strategic initiatives for Thomson Legal & Regulatory, directing growth and acquisition strategies for its businesses around the world. Prior to that, he was executive vice president of West Online Strategic Marketing, responsible for the marketing, product development and branding initiatives that have positioned Westlaw as the market leader and most trusted brand among all legal research services. Martin also brings sales and marketing operations expertise to Dialog, having served as executive vice president of sales operations both for West Group and Thomson Legal Publishing.

Prior to this, Martin led the integration team that planned and executed the combination of publishing businesses that formed Thomson Legal Publishing in 1995. Martin joined Thomson as senior vice president of Strategic Marketing for Lawyers Cooperative Publishing in 1993, where he played a key role in the company's transition from a print to an electronic publisher. Before joining Thomson, Martin spent 15 years in the computer systems and software industry. He has been president of two software companies, and also held a variety of executive management and marketing positions for several network systems businesses. Martin is a graduate of Virginia Tech and holds an M.B.A. from Emory University in Atlanta.
