Dialog Enhances Intellectual Property Research with WIPO Patent Information

London, England and Cary, N.C., 10th April, 2000: Lawyers and corporate researchers have another reason to rely on Dialog for the most comprehensive online source of worldwide intellectual property information with the new addition of the WIPO Patent Cooperation Treaty database.

WIPO patent information enhances The Dialog Corporation's superior information collection for patent, copyright and trademark research made available through the company's Information Services Division.

Participation in the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) internal patent filing system has sharply increased since its inception in 1979. With the PCT, a single, international patent application is valid in any or all of the 170 member states. WIPO (The World Intellectual Property Organization) administers the PCT system and is one of 16 specialized agencies of the United Nations.

"This important service to our customers bolsters and complements our superior collection of worldwide patent literature," said Jason Mollé, Dialog's president of the Americas. "This additional resource gives our customers the ability to use the precision of our search engine to search prior art, investigate patent families, monitor existing and emerging technologies, and track competitors. Now, more than ever, Dialog is premier information sources for any intellectual property issue that our customers and their organizations may face."

The Dialog WIPO/PCT database, provided by Micropatent® LLC, provides precise and timely access to the full text of international patent applications within 10-14 days of publication.

The database (File 349) dates back to 1983 and includes both full text and basic bibliographic information of the PCT published patent applications. The full text archive enhances the prior art searching capabilities, which is extremely valuable for patent attorneys and researchers.

Later this year, the database will include detailed bibliographic information from the PCT Gazette, WIPO patents back to their inception in 1978, and images. Bibliographic data from WIPO will be available online within days of publication, and will be updated with MicroPatent's full text data as it becomes available.

Dialog's patent collection includes Derwent World Patents Index, Inpadoc/Family & Legal Status, European Patents Fulltext, Claims/U.S. Patents and the entire family of Claims databases, and U.S. Patents Fulltext, among others. In conjunction with trademark and copyright information, Dialog is an unrivalled world leader and one-stop shop for intellectual property research.
