Dialog Announces Executive Appointments

CARY, N.C. (September 27, 2001) -- Dialog, a Thomson business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services, today announced three executive appointments that strengthen the company's marketing, sales, and communications prowess.

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, STRATEGIC MARKETING

Dialog said today that it has named Cynthia Murphy as senior vice president, strategic marketing.

Murphy is responsible for all worldwide strategic marketing programs, including developing and implementing marketing and business plans for specific segments of Dialog's worldwide customer base. She also leads Dialog's efforts in strategic competitive intelligence and market research, and coordination of global sales initiatives, branding strategy, and brand advertising. Murphy also leads Dialog's global product launch process.

Prior to joining Dialog, Murphy held a London-based management position at Sweet & Maxwell, part of the Thomson Legal and Regulatory Europe organization. At Sweet & Maxwell, Murphy successfully launched Westlaw UK, now one of the most recognized online legal publishing brands in the United Kingdom. Westlaw UK holds significant market penetration among major U.K. law firms and law schools.

Murphy's career with the Thomson family of companies includes various other management positions within Westlaw UK, West Group, West Online, and Westlaw. She began her career as a law librarian in Boston. Murphy holds an advanced degree from Simmons College and an undergraduate degree from the University of Maine.

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, U.S. SALES AND MARKETING

Dialog also said that Jim Colantino has been appointed senior vice president, U.S. sales and marketing. He is responsible for managing all sales activities nationwide, including account development, sales operations, regional and federal government sales, and regional marketing.

Colantino joined Dialog from his previous position as the Chicago-based director of sales for West Group, another Thomson business and a leading provider of e-information solutions to the U.S. legal market. His exceptional leadership skills were instrumental in continuing West Group's 129-year tradition of innovation, quality, and customer focus with consistent market dominance and superior sales performance for four consecutive years. Colantino also previously held sales management positions at legal publishers Clark Boardman Callaghan (a Thomson business) and at Xerox Corporation. Colantino is a graduate of Youngstown State University in Ohio.

DIRECTOR, CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS

Dialog also announced today that Sandy Scherer has been appointed director of corporate communications.

Scherer leads all corporate communications programs and initiatives worldwide. She is responsible for coordinating employee communications, internal programs, and public relations, as well as overall strategy development and content management for Dialog's Intranet site.

Scherer brings more than 15 years of experience in the corporate communications field to her new position. She is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

All three of the new Dialog executives are based at the company's worldwide headquarters in Cary, N.C.

"We are delighted that these three outstanding professionals have chosen to further their careers at Dialog," said Roy M. Martin, Jr., Dialog president and CEO. "We are focused on creating innovative new products and services, while enhancing our existing ones, to best help our clients succeed, and on building trust and confidence in our company. Outstanding leadership in marketing, sales, and communications is a critical component of our efforts."
