Dialog at Internet Librarian: Showcasing New Products & Enhanced Services for Information Professional

PASADENA, Calif., USA, November 5, 2001 -- An energized and customer-focused Dialog will showcase new products and highlight enhanced services at the Internet Librarian conference here November 5 -- 8, 2001.

Dialog, a Thomson company and a leading international provider of online-based information services, will demonstrate how its recent content additions and product development efforts better help professional librarians and other knowledge managers benefit from Dialog's precision searching, system speed and depth of content available through its online information services.

At the Internet Librarian conference, Dialog will introduce a new stand-alone product called Dialog Company Profiles, offering one-stop access to comprehensive profiles of nearly 500,000 companies worldwide.

The new Web-based product, developed in conjunction with other units of The Thomson Corporation, gives users the ability to quickly generate a list of relevant company profiles and articles drawn from a large collection of reliable online databases, news and business information services, and financial data sources.

Among major new service offerings and content additions to be highlighted at the Internet Librarian conference (and the Dialog platform to which the content has or will soon be added) are:

  • Full-text content of the Financial Times (FT) and its online partner FT.com. The Financial Times is one of the world's most prestigious and influential financial newspapers. (Dialog, DataStar & Profound)


  • A collection of Australian newspapers and periodicals supplied by John Fairfax Holdings Limited -- a roster that includes some of Australia's most influential titles. (Dialog, DataStar & Profound)


  • Applications published by The Korean Intellectual Property Office, many of which are not available through any other online source. (Dialog)


  • BrandLine, a new database that features detailed information about company brands and trademark information from around the world. (Profound)


  • TableBase ™, which provides statistical information on companies, products, industries, brands, markets, demographics and economies around the world. (Profound)


  • New energy and biotech modules added to Dialog1, the easy-to-use web-based information service for business professionals. (Dialog)

Among the numerous product improvements undertaken by Dialog recently are:

  • Improved custom applications and alerting features, as well as new content, now available through the Dialog Intranet Toolkit service. The improvements give information professionals and knowledge managers a new power to create customized sites within their Intranets that make Dialog-accessible databases and files directly available to professionals throughout an enterprise.


  • An upgrade of the SourceOne service. Users can now order an expanded number of copies of original patents, including all images, with more choices for document delivery.

Dialog also will promote its newly revised and improved Quantum2 program, a series of professional development initiatives designed to help corporate librarians and other information professionals better articulate their value within their organizations. The Quantum2 program provides training, tools and support for Dialog's core constituency of information professionals.

The company also will sponsor a reception for all conference attendees hosted by the Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP). The reception is today, Monday, November 5 at in the Piazza Room at the Pasadena Sheraton, from 6 to 8 p.m.
