P R E S S R E L E A S E Dialog Teams with UKOLUG to Assist Top Student with Online Information 'Passport' LONDON, UK -- 4 December 2001 - The Dialog Corporation, a Thomson business and a leading international provider of online-based information services, today announced it has sponsored a high-flying information studies student to attend the Online Information 2001 conference at Olympia, in London. The award, made on the recommendation of the Institute of Information Scientists' UK Online User Group, enables Paul Levett, a student at the University of Sheffield, to hear all about the latest developments in the online information industry at first hand. Online Information 2001 takes place between 4 and 6 December and features a range of panel discussions and keynote speeches on a wide variety of topics, from e-Government initiatives and information literacy to the future of scientific publishing. Levett was chosen from a number of contenders as giving the most focussed and relevant reasons to attend the event by a panel of three senior UKOLUG Management Committee members. UKOLUG has been awarding this prize for several years as one of a number of awards and bursaries made to students with the express aim of aiding their continuing professional development. Chris Armstrong, chairman of UKOLUG, said: "We were extremely pleased to be able to upgrade the award to a full conference place thanks to Dialog's generosity. "As usual, choosing the winner was not easy, with several applicants offering good reasons for attending Online Information 2001. Paul had taken the trouble to look at the Online Information conference web site and to relate his reasons for attending to the sessions that interested him. "He obviously understood the value of the conference and specifically mentioned widening his network of contacts and the generation of ideas and evidence for his MSc dissertation. We are confident that he will benefit from the experience and would like to wish him well for his career." Ciaran Morton, President of The Dialog Corporation EMEA/AP, said: "Information students are the future information professionals of our industry, and we are delighted to have teamed up with UKOLUG to make this award. At Online this year we are launching our Quantum_ programme to focus on lifelong learning for the information professional, and this award reinforces our commitment to professionals at all stages of their career development. We look forward to watching Paul progress in his information career." - Ends - topAbout Dialog Headquartered in Cary, N.C., USA, with direct operations in 30 countries, Dialog products are used by more than 20,000 corporate customers in over 100 countries.
