P R E S S R E L E A S E United Technologies Signs Exclusive Agreement with Legal, Business Information Providers EAGAN, Minn., September 5, 2001 Two leading businesses within The Thomson Corporation have joined forces to bring United Technologies a total information solution. Dialog and West Group, both leading providers of Web-based information and technology resources to the corporate market, today announced that they will provide United Technologies with a comprehensive legal, business and current awareness information solution. The agreement brings West Group's principal online research services and tools to corporate legal departments at United Technologies headquarters and to corporate counsel at its subsidiaries Pratt & Whitney, Carrier, Otis, International Fuel Cells, and Hamilton Sundstrand and Sikorsky. The agreement also expands the presence of Dialog at United Technologies, most prominently at United Technologies Research Center, a business unit that teams with other company businesses to anticipate and fulfill customer demands. In the legal department, United Technologies will now use West Group's flagship legal research service, Westlaw®, which will allow its users fast and easy access to an unmatched collection of some 15,000 databases of information, including editorially enhanced cases, statutes, rules and regulations; legal periodicals; texts; and business news from around the world. West Group also will provide a customized user interface configured to put critical information at the fingertips of United Technologies attorneys. All West Group services can be individually tailored by United Technologies users to fit their research needs. With companies worldwide and more than half of its 2000 revenues coming from outside the United States, United Technologies needs reliable legal and business information gathered from across a global marketplace. Westlaw has the legal industry's broadest collection of content from U.S. courts and also features a growing body of legal information from countries around the world. Dialog hosts more than 6 billion pages of business, scientific, engineering and financial information, accessible via the Internet or through delivery to enterprise intranets.
