P R E S S R E L E A S E Dialog Announces Canadian Award Recipients Toronto, June 10, 2002 — Dialog, a Thomson (TSX:TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, today announced Canadian winners for two awards given by the company. The first of the Canadian winners is Linda Pauloski, the manager of the Library Resource Center at Dofasco, Inc. in Hamilton, Ontario, a steel manufacturer. She was designated as one of Dialog's Quantum2 InfoStar Award winners for 2002. Dialog annually designates 12 recipients worldwide for its Quantum2 InfoStar Awards, given to information professionals in various countries whose creativity and innovation are inspirational to others. The award to Pauloski was announced at the Special Libraries Association (SLA) conference, being held this week in Los Angeles. "Linda Pauloski truly is an inspiration to all of us in the information industry," Al Kennedy, general manager of Dialog's Canadian operations, said. "By making her library an integral part of Dofasco's success and a real strategic asset to the company, Linda has shown other information professionals what can be accomplished with hard work and imagination. We salute her." The second award announced today, co-sponsored with SLA's Toronto chapter, is a stipend to a Canadian information sciences student to attend the SLA conference. This year's winner is Laura Anderson, a first-year student at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Information Studies program. Candidates for the annual Dialog/SLA Toronto Chapter Student Annual Conference Stipend were asked to write an essay based on the SLA Conference's theme of "Putting Knowledge To Work." Anderson's winning submission was titled, "Knowledge Management and Chief Knowledge Officers – A Lesson For Librarians." Anderson's essay may be read at quantum.dialog.com. "We are delighted to spotlight two of our Canadian colleagues with these awards," said Dialog's Kennedy. "We believe strongly in enhancing the role of information professionals within their organizations. Certainly all of us in the Canadian information profession can be proud of Linda and Laura." - Ends - topAbout Dialog Today, Dialog's three online platforms — Dialog®, Profound® and DataStar — offer users the ability to precisely retrieve data from more than 1.2 billion unique records, accessible via the Internet or through delivery to enterprise intranets.
