Dialog and CAS Agree to Offer CA Search® File Users Options for Ordering CAS Abstracts Through Dialog®Web-Guided Search

LOS ANGELES, June 10, 2002 — Dialog, a Thomson (TSX:TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, today announced that it has reached an agreement with Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) to provide users of its DialogWeb-Guided Search service with the capability to order displayable abstracts of journal articles, patents and other documents published by CAS.

DialogWeb-Guided Search users will soon be able to request and then purchase multiple corresponding full abstracts when searching CA Search files (file numbers 308-314, 399), which include more than 16 million bibliographic references and indexing in chemistry and related science (from 1967 onward) produced by CAS. This new capability is expected be available later this summer.

Dialog made the announcement at the 93rd Annual Conference of the Special Libraries Association, meeting here June 8-13.

Abstracts of the material covered by CAS include critical scientific research, regulatory and patent resources for a wide range of scientists, researchers, engineers, paralegals, intellectual property managers and others. The abstracts also are important to information professionals and others supporting them in the chemical industry and related fields, such as agricultural sciences, biotechnology, life sciences, medical research and many others. Dialog, as one of the world's largest aggregators of scientific, academic and business information, also offers a tremendous range of other information required by its customers in the chemical and related fields.

"We are delighted to be offering our customers access to this highly valued information," said Dialog Senior Vice President of Product Development Paul Colucci. "We have worked closely with CAS for years, and are excited now to extend that relationship for the benefit and convenience of our users in the scientific, medical and technology communities around the world."

Added CAS Director of Marketing Suzan A. Brown, "We are pleased to be working with Dialog on this new development. Soon users of the CA Search file on DialogWeb-Guided Search will be able to conveniently order abstracts from CAS. We believe this will increase the availability of our world leading scientific information within the broader business community."
