P R E S S R E L E A S E Dialog Adds Feature to Seamlessly Link to e-Journals CARY, NC, USA, February 12, 2002 -- Dialog, a Thomson business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, today announced that it has added the ability for users of its Dialog® service to link seamlessly -- and without cost -- to the full texts of more than 8,000 scientific, medical and technical e-Journals published by more than 40 leading scientific publishers and information aggregators. The e-Journals available for seamless access are mostly peer-reviewed scientific, medical and technical journals serving specialized audiences. Among the leading publishers and aggregators making their e-Journals available for immediate linking are Ebsco Online, John Wiley & Sons, Science Direct, SwetsNet and Information Quest. Twenty files available through services on the Dialog-branded online platform (Dialog®, DialogWeb®, DialogSelect (sm), Dialog1 and Dialog Intranet Toolkit) now have the free linking feature. Previously, users would retrieve a citation or abstract of the article or report they sought, and then would have to take another step to access the specific e-Journals to retrieve the desired document in full-text form. Dialog's e-Journal linking capability eliminates the need for that additional step. "Immediate, seamless linking to e-Journals through Dialog is more than an added convenience for our users," said Paul Colucci, Dialog senior vice president of product development. "It gives our users a new power to find the information they need quickly, precisely and accurately, and the power to put that information to work in their organizations." Colucci added that Dialog will add additional e-Journals available for free linking, including those in the financial, news and business information arenas. Dialog customers using the new seamless linking feature must have pre-existing subscriptions to the e-Journals they wish to access directly from Dialog, or must be a subscriber to an intermediary aggregator representing the e-Journal's publisher. Dialog provides users with a management tool to create customized rosters of e-Journals for which subscriptions are held, and to determine how those e-Journals are displayed on Dialog search result pages. Dialog has relationships in place with more 40 publishers and aggregators to provide the new linking feature. - Ends - topAbout Dialog Today, Dialog's three online platforms -- Dialog®, Profound® and DataStar -- offer users the ability to precisely retrieve data from more than 1.2 billion unique records, accessible via the Internet or through delivery to enterprise intranets.
