P R E S S R E L E A S E Dialog Announces North American InfoStar Winners for 2002 LOS ANGELES, June 11, 2002 — Dialog, a Thomson (TSX:TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, today announced 2002's three North American winners of its annual Quantum2 InfoStar Awards. This year's three North American InfoStars are Marilyn Bromley (Washington, D.C.), Chris Brune (New York City) and Linda Pauloski (Hamilton, Ontario). As part of its Quantum2 program offering professional education and career development services to information professionals worldwide, Dialog annually designates 12 recipients of its InfoStar Awards. The awards are given to information professionals in various countries whose creativity and innovation are inspirational to others. The North American award winners were announced at the Special Libraries Association (SLA) conference, being held this week in Los Angeles. "Each of the new InfoStars has demonstrated tremendous innovation and has had a positive impact on their organizations," said Libby Trudell, Dialog senior vice president of information professional market development. "Marilyn Bromley contributed a Quantum2 case study on her successful analysis of the information center's return on investment. Chris Brune's team has developed a knowledge-sharing platform that integrates key information sources for his whole organization. And Linda Pauloski is active in her company's competitive intelligence and 'communities of practice' programs. Their leadership truly inspires us." Marilyn Bromley is the library director at The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. (BNA), an employee-owned legal and regulatory publisher based in Washington, D.C. She has worked for BNA for 18 years, since 1994 in her current position. In the mid-1980s, Bromley created her company's competitive intelligence service, now updated daily on BNA's intranet. She has also been instrumental in promoting the use of electronic resources to BNA's 600 reporters and editors worldwide. She is active in SLA, including having served as the Washington D.C. chapter's president. Bromley was awarded a master's degree in Library Science from The Catholic University of America. Chris Brune serves as vice president, knowledge manager, for Bates Worldwide. Headquartered in New York, Bates is one of the largest communications networks in the world, with 8,700 employees across 75 countries. Since joining Bates in 2000, Brune has been a leader in creating a global information-sharing intranet that links 200 Bates offices worldwide. These offices now have immediate access to case studies, creative executions, and other information that has proved invaluable in both new business and client service efforts. The system includes the ability to send specific research requests directly to the company's library staff, resulting in faster responses and further establishing his department as a global resource. He holds a master's degree in Library Science from Rutgers University. Linda Pauloski is manager, Library Resource Centre, for the Hamilton, Ontario-based Dofasco, Inc., a leading Canadian steel manufacturer. In her position, Pauloski has worked to foster a knowledge-sharing culture and to help her company's staff keep abreast of trends in the steel industry. In recent years, the company's library has been spearheading a competitive intelligence unit that meshes internal knowledge with external information to create snapshots of the competitive landscape. Pauloski was educated at Queen's University and Mohawk College, both in Ontario. - Ends - topAbout Dialog Today, Dialog's three online platforms — Dialog®, Profound® and DataStar — offer users the ability to precisely retrieve data from more than 1.2 billion unique records, accessible via the Internet or through delivery to enterprise intranets.
