LONDON (4 December, 2002) — Dialog, a Thomson (NYSE, TSX: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, today announced the European winners of its Quantum2 InfoStar Awards.

The three European InfoStars are:

  • Yulia Aspinall, information officer for Cambridge Antibody Technology (U.K.), a leader in the discovery and development of human monoclonal antibody therapeutics. Under her direction, the company's Information Centre has grown significantly, providing more than 270 staff with scientific, business and patent research support, as well as training, management of an Information Services intranet, and maintenance of internal databases.

  • Carol O'Driscoll, regional research director for Russell Reynolds Associates (U.K.), a global executive recruitment and management assessment firm. O'Driscoll is responsible for developing research policy and strategy for the firm's European operations, overseeing 60 researchers. She recently successfully introduced a research performance measurement initiative and revamped appraisal process.

  • Ylva Fernvall, manager of Scientific Information for Biovitrum AB (Sweden), who has been instrumental in creating her company's first electronic library. Biovitrum is a biotech company active in the research of metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and obesity, and in the development, production and marketing of recombinant and plasma derived protein drugs.
  • Dialog made the announcement at Online Information 2002, the world's largest gathering of information industry professionals.

As part of its Quantum2 programme offering professional training and career development services to information professionals worldwide, Dialog is recognising a select group of information professionals from around the world as InfoStars. The awards are given to individuals whose creativity and innovation are inspirational to others in the information field.

"We had a number of outstanding candidates nominated from Europe, and it was a difficult process to narrow them down to just three," said Libby Trudell, Dialog senior vice president of information professional market development. "The three winners have demonstrated originality and leadership in their work. They have made great contributions to their organisations and to our profession. We're delighted to honour them."
