Dialog Reduces Embargo on "Morning Meeting Notes" Available through IntelliscopeSM Service

Dialog's Ongoing Investments Demonstrate Commitment To Service

BOSTON — July 18, 2002 — Dialog, a Thomson (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, announced today that "Morning Meeting Notes" — highly valued company and industry analysis prepared daily by brokerages to guide their investment decision-making and customer advice — will be available for faster access through the IntelliscopeSM service offered by the company's Intelligence Data business unit.

The Morning Meeting Notes are supplied to Intelligence Data through the First Call Notes ™ database, published by Thomson Financial, an operating unit of The Thomson Corporation. About 4,800 new notes are added to Intelliscope each day.

Previously, an embargo of up to several days was imposed on the availability of Morning Meeting Notes. By the end of July, the embargo will be reduced to approximately 12 hours from the time the reports are distributed internally by the firms producing them until they are available through Intelliscope.

Companies subscribing to Intelliscope use Morning Meeting Notes to monitor their competitors and marketplace. The notes provide analyst commentary, intraday research broadcasts and corporate news releases, and are highly regarded for their insight and analysis. They are not available on the open Web.

"We are delighted to offer our customers faster access to Morning Meeting Notes," said Cheryl Curran, executive vice president, Intelligence Data. "Morning Meeting Notes are a key element in fulfilling our mission of helping our customers leverage the best research and analysis produced in the investment and financial communities."

Dialog also said today that it had made other improvements to the Intelliscope service. Those improvements include:

  • Increased bandwidth devoted to the service, which in turn enables it to operate more quickly and allows more users to interact with the service simultaneously.

  • The addition of a "wait animation" icon to alert users to the status of a downloading document as it is being transferred to a user's computer. The new feature helps better communicate that the product is working during the download process.

  • The ability for users to input their own accounting codes to track usage. This new feature makes it easier for businesses that bill clients for research expenses and for corporate librarians and other in-house researchers who need to track expenses for projects and internal clients.

"Our investment in improving Intelliscope demonstrates our commitment to the service," said Roy M. Martin Jr., Dialog president and CEO. "Intelliscope offers valuable content that fills an unique niche in the information marketplace. It is an important part of Dialog's portfolio of products and services, and we will continue to invest in improvements."

Intelliscope offers online access to expert opinion and analysis on companies, industries and markets drawn from 650 of the world's leading research firms, and to research reports prepared by more than 700 analysts at some 200 brokerage and investment firms. The service's content includes the Morning Meeting Notes and other brokerage research reports, as well as trade publications, newswires and other sources of current news and analysis.
