P R E S S R E L E A S E Dialog Names Cliff Pollan Executive Vice President, Strategy and Alliances CARY, N.C., USA — August 22, 2002 — Dialog, a Thomson (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, today announced that Clifford M. Pollan, formerly president and CEO of NewsEdge, has been appointed as Dialog executive vice president, strategy and alliances. The appointment comes as the integration of NewsEdge into Dialog has been completed. NewsEdge, of which Pollan was a co-founder in 1989, was acquired by The Thomson Corporation in September 2001. In his new position, Pollan reports to Dialog President and CEO Roy M. Martin, Jr., with global responsibility to coordinate all business development activities, including acquisitions and new ventures, as well as operating responsibilities for alliances and third-party relationships. Pollan will also coordinate overall strategy development for Dialog. Before that, he was a member of the management team of Isys Corporation, a financial information company that was acquired by Lotus. From 1978 to 1984, he was employed by Data Resources, Inc., an economic information service company, as a director of consulting. Pollan holds a bachelor's degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
