Translated Japanese Trademark Info Now on Dialog®

CARY, NC, USA, January 8, 2002 -- The Dialog Corporation, a Thomson business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services, today announced that TRADEMARKSCAN®-Japan -- the first Japanese trademark database specifically designed for use by trademark professionals outside of Japan -- is now available for online searching and document retrieval through the Dialog® service.

The new content source covering Japanese trademarks complements an extensive roster of business, marketing, intellectual property, brand and related news and information sources from around the world available through the Dialog service.

"We'll do that by aggregating the best databases available -- such as TRADEMARKSCAN-Japan -- and by coupling them with our precision searching tools and system speed capabilities.

TRADEMARKSCAN-Japan is produced by Thomson & Thomson, a world leader in trademark and copyright services and also a Thomson business. The database currently contains more than 2.5 million active and inactive Japanese trademark registrations and applications, with updates monthly.

The TRADEMARKSCAN-Japan database enables Dialog users to accurately search Japanese trademark registrations and applications without having to know the Japanese language. Entries are both translated and transliterated, displaying the trademark as filed as well as the phonetics for the trademark. All records are displayed phonetically in Roman characters, regardless of the character set in which they were originally filed (Kanji, Katakana or Hiragana). Non-Japanese trademarks are restored back to their original Roman spelling.
