The company will award a scholarship of AU$5,000 (or equivalent in local currency) to a student enrolled in an accredited library or information sciences course in Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Thailand, Taiwan, The Philippines, Vietnam or another Asian Pacific country. The deadline for applicants is Friday, 27 February 2004. Applications are available online at gep.dialog.com/scholarship/. The winner will be announced in March 2004. Dialog awards three Roger K. A panel of local information professionals and educators selects the regional winners after reviewing academic achievement, interest in electronic information services, proficiency using the online services offered by Dialog, and faculty recommendations. In 2003, Dialog awarded its first Asian Pacific Roger K. Summit Scholarship to Wei Ping Yu of the University of New South Wales. That announcement was made at the 11th Information Online Conference and Exhibition in Sydney, organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). The scholarship program is part of an array of Dialog initiatives in support of professional development. It is named in honour of Dr. Roger K. Summit, Dialog founder and a well-known pioneer in the online information field. Summit is chairman emeritus of Dialog. - Ends - topAbout Dialog and The Thomson Corporation Today, the online services provided by Dialog — offered through the Dialog®, Dialog Profound®, Dialog DataStar™, NewsEdge and Intelligence Data brands — give users the ability to precisely retrieve data from more than 1.4 billion unique records, accessible via the Internet or through delivery to enterprise intranets.
