Dialog Announces Winners of 2003 European InfoStar Awards

LONDON (3 December 2002) — Dialog, a Thomson (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, today announced the winners of its Quantum2 InfoStar Awards for 2003.

The three European InfoStars are:

  • Pia Jeppesen Hansen, an information specialist for H. Lundbeck A/S (Denmark). Among other responsibilities, Ms. Hansen manages Internet and database training for various departments and units at her company, including for new employees. She also helps manage the company’s online portal. Previous experience includes positions with the Copenhagen City Museum and the Ministry of Business and Industry.

  • Jacques Hellemans, a librarian at the University Library of Brussels (Belgium). Mr. Hellemans is in charge of the library’s economics section and is involved in managing cooperative programs with other libraries. He has held other library positions in the Brussels area, and in Africa.

  • Veronica Whitehorn, a medical information manager for Shire Pharmaceutical Development Ltd. (U.K.). Ms. Whitehorn has responsibility for her company’s medical information team and library staff. Before joining Shire, she held information management positions with Quintiles (U.K.) Ltd. and Bayer plc.

Dialog made the announcement at Online Information 2003, the world’s largest gathering of information industry professionals.

As part of its Quantum2 programme offering professional training and career development services to information professionals worldwide, Dialog each year recognises a select group of information professionals from around the world as InfoStars. The awards are given to individuals whose creativity and innovation are inspirational to others in the information field.

“Each of our InfoStars epitomizes the attributes of Quantum2 leadership,” said Libby Trudell, Dialog senior vice president of information professional development. “Each has raised the visibility and value of information services for their constituencies to a new level, through fresh approaches to understanding and addressing needs, and by reaching beyond traditional boundaries.”
