Dialog Announces InfoStar Winners from Australia, New Zealand

SYDNEY, NSW (21 January, 2003) — Dialog, a Thomson (NYSE, TSX: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, today announced that Australia's Karen Tempest and New Zealand's Lorraine Tremain are the first regional winners of the company's Quantum2 InfoStar Awards.

Dialog made the announcement at the 11th Information Online Conference and Exhibition, Australia's premier information industry conference that is meeting here this week.

Tempest and Tremain are the first information professionals from the Asia Pacific region to be designated by Dialog as InfoStars.

As part of its Quantum2 program offering professional education and career development services to information professionals worldwide, Dialog will designate up to 12 information professionals this year from around the world as InfoStars. The awards are given to individuals whose creativity and innovation are inspirational to others in the information field.

"Dialog is committed to supporting professional development initiatives worldwide, and we're very please to extend our InfoStars programme to the Asia Pacific region," said Libby Trudell, Dialog senior vice president of information professional development. "Not only do Karen Tempest and Lorraine Tremain both represent excellence in the information profession, they also manage to pursue a wide range of other interests and activities. We are honoured to celebrate their achievements."

Karen Tempest is the manager of information services for CSL Limited, based in Parkville, Victoria, Australia. CSL develops, manufactures and markets pharmaceutical products of biological origin. Tempest's department provides information support and services to the company's global staff, bolstering its business decision-making and research processes. Tempest previously served as a research librarian for CSL, and prior to that held a number of research and information management positions in the health care field. She is active in a number of professional organizations, including holding leadership posts in the Australian Library and Information Association.

Tempest holds a Graduate Diploma of Librarianship from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Arts from LaTrobe University.

Lorraine Tremain is a knowledge navigator team leader at the Fonterra Research Centre, in Palmerston North, New Zealand. She provides information searching, research and analysis services to Fonterra staff, including literature searches, patent mapping, competitor analysis and market trends. Tremain previously worked for the New Zealand Dairy Research Centre, now part of Fonterra, most recently as manager of its Information Centre. She also currently manages a 400-acre farm, raising beef, deer, goats and forestry products, and enjoys classical music and travel.

Ms. Tremain holds a postgraduate diploma from the New Zealand Library School and a master's (Hons) in English Literature and Music from the University of Canterbury. Her undergraduate degree is also from the University of Canterbury.
