Dialog to Showcase New Central European Trademark and Global Domain Name Records at International Trademark Association Conference

AMSTERDAM (May 1, 2003) — Dialog, a Thomson (TSX: TOC; NYSE: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, said today that it will showcase recent enhancements to its formidable collection of trademark and related intellectual property information at the International Trademark Association conference meeting here May 3-7.

Dialog offers extensive trademark and related intellectual property information for electronic searching and retrieval through its Dialog-branded family of online services. Legal professionals, researchers, competitive intelligence specialists, marketing managers and others use Dialog services to research and track trademark and intellectual property issues.

Among the enhanced services Dialog will exhibit here is the addition of trademark files from three Central European countries — never before available through any online vendor — to its collection of trademark data from around the world.

The three new files added last month are: TRADEMARKSCAN®-Czech Republic (File 680) with 168,000 records updated monthly; TRADEMARKSCAN®-Hungary (File 681) with 60,000 records updated monthly; and TRADEMARKSCAN®-Poland (File 682) with 181,000 records updated quarterly. All are now available through Dialog services.

The new European content brings the total number of trademark files available through Dialog to 23. Each file can be searched individually or in conjunction with other trademark files, as well as with a database of Internet domain names.

Domain Names

Dialog will also exhibit its database of more than 90 million current and historic Internet domain name records. The Dialog Domain Names database (File 225) is the largest collection of domain name information available, containing records for about 20 million currently active domain names. Most of the records include detailed "Whois" information, such as registrant's name, corporate affiliation, address, phone number and IP addresses.

In recent weeks, Dialog has added top-level, country-specific domain records from more than 100 countries to the database. Country coded top-level domains (referred to as "ccTLDs") are those Web addresses ending in an abbreviation for a home country, such as .nl for the Netherlands or .fr for France.

The new global records give users the ability to research and track a wider universe of domain names. Unlike the simple domain name look-up services available on the open Web, Dialog subscribers may search from more than 50 indexed data fields contained in domain registrations, including the registrant's name, corporate affiliation, address, phone number and specific technical information such as IP addresses.
