P R E S S R E L E A S E Global Brokerage Reports Added To IntelliscopeSM Service From Dialog No Price Change Despite 25 Percent Increase in Content Collection Unique Perspective on Companies & Industries Worldwide Offered Through Alliance of Thomson Business Units BOSTON, USA (September 4, 2003) — Dialog, a Thomson (TSX: TOC; NYSE: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, today said that it has added 128 new providers of brokerage reports to its IntelliscopeSM online service. The new content providers represent about a 25 percent increase in the number of investment banks, brokerages and consulting firms contributing their brokerage reports to the Intelliscope service. Dialog said there would be no increase in pricing for Intelliscope, despite the expanded content collection. The subscription-based Intelliscope service is used by more than 12,000 users within thousands of corporations and other organizations worldwide to access expert opinion and analysis on companies, industries and markets drawn from more than 600 of the world's leading investment banks, brokerages and consulting firms. Brokerage reports, one category of content available through Intelliscope, are prepared by financial firms to help guide investment decision-making. Dialog offers them outside the investment community through its Intelliscope service. The brokerage reports available through Intelliscope cover more than 37,500 public and private companies, with more than 1,500 new reports added each business day. "Brokerage reports offer an unique perspective on companies and industries worldwide," said Viji Krishnan, Dialog vice president of content development. "For marketing professionals, strategic planners, international sales managers and others, brokerage reports are a great resource to track competitors and monitor industry trends. They often combine the nitty-gritty of detailed reporting on individual companies with big-picture analysis and forecasting." The new providers of brokerage reports represent a range of investment firms and brokerages based in Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe and North and South America. They include locally based firms offering research on regional firms, as well as local offices of international financial companies researching businesses in their areas. The list includes well-known global banks, such as ABN AMRO Bank and Deutsche Bank; international investment firms, such as Bear, Stearns & Co. and Credit Suisse First Boston; and regional firms, such as the Australian-based Burdett Buckeridge Young and SNS Securities, based in the Netherlands. Brokerage reports feature expert opinion from specialists with in-depth knowledge of their respective industries and privileged relationships at the executive level of the corporations they monitor. Other elements of the reports encompass revenue forecasts, management outlooks, marketing strategies, competitive landscapes, new product plans, industry trends, regulatory issues, product lifecycles, and analysis of business plan executions. Additional content categories available through Intelliscope include Morning Meeting Notes (highly valued company and industry analysis prepared daily by brokerages), as well as trade publications, newswires and other sources of current news and analysis. The content available through Intelliscope is supplied to Dialog from Thomson Financial (www.thomson.com/financial/financial.jsp), another operating unit of The Thomson Corporation. - Ends - topAbout Dialog and The Thomson Corporation Today, the online services provided by Dialog — offered through the Dialog®, Dialog Profound®, Dialog DataStar™, NewsEdge and Intelligence Data brands — give users the ability to precisely retrieve data from more than 1.4 billion unique records, accessible via the Internet or through delivery to enterprise intranets.
