Detailed Japanese Company Data from Kompass Now Available Exclusively through Dialog® & Dialog DataStar™

CARY, NC, USA (August 11, 2003) — Dialog, a Thomson (TSX: TOC; NYSE: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, today said that detailed data on thousands of Japanese companies, published by business information specialist Kompass, is now available exclusively through Dialog® (File 592) and Dialog DataStar™ (KPWO) services.

Kompass is a global network of business information publishers that researches companies and sells the data in various formats. Dialog is the only information services provider offering access to Kompass databases.

The new Japanese data joins other Kompass-published company information covering businesses in Africa, the Asia Pacific region, the Middle East and the Americas, all available exclusively through Dialog and Dialog DataStar.

“Adding Japanese company profiles from Kompass strengthens our already extensive collection of business news and information from around the world,” said Viji Krishnan, Dialog vice president of content development. “The high quality and reliability of Kompass company profiles from Japan is a particularly important addition to our in-depth and broad coverage of businesses in Asia.”

Added Krishnan: “We are delighted to expand our relationship with Kompass and to continue representing it exclusively in the worldwide markets we serve.”

The new Japanese information from Kompass includes comprehensive data on more than 6,200 Japanese companies, primarily manufacturers involved in import-export businesses based in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

The collection of Kompass Japanese records available through Dialog services is expected to grow in the months and years ahead. Profiles will be added for companies in the Western Japanese cities of Kobe, Kyoto, Nagoya and Osaka.

Dialog said that its collection of Kompass Japanese files is expected to include records on more than 10,000 companies by the end of this year, 16,000 in 2004 and 30,000 in 2006.

Records available in Kompass databases may be searched through Dialog services by a mix of criteria, including such keywords as product names and descriptions, company name, executives, region, town, turnover and employee size. Companies are coded through a Kompass hierarchical classification system of products and services, which lists 53,000 products by economic sector.

Each Kompass company profile includes such details as product listings, revenue, executive listings and functions, office locations, year established, number of employees, contact information, quality assessments, registration numbers, trade association memberships, existing producer, distributor and service provider relationships and more.

Dialog subscribers worldwide use the Kompass collection of databases to locate business opportunities for distributors, importers and exporters, as well as manufacturers and suppliers. Subscribers also search Kompass records to track competitors and prepare marketing campaigns, among other pursuits.
