Dialog Announces 2003 North America Roger K. Summit Scholarship Winner

NEW YORK (June 9, 2003) — Dialog, a Thomson (TSX: TOC; NYSE: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, today announced that this year's North America Roger K. Summit Scholarship winner is Susan Johnson, a graduate student at the University of Hawaii.

The award will assist Johnson in her pursuit of a doctorate in Communication and Information Studies.

"We are delighted to help Susan in her important work at the University of Hawaii," said Libby Trudell, Dialog senior vice president of information professional development. "Among other factors that persuaded us to award her this year's scholarship is her tremendous energy and enthusiasm. Susan already has demonstrated success as a student and teacher, and as an active member of the library community. She is sure to go on to make a real mark as an information professional."

Dialog made the announcement during a ceremony at the annual conference of the Special Libraries Association (SLA), meeting here this week.

In addition to her doctoral studies, Johnson currently works as social sciences librarian at Hamilton Library, the flagship library for the University of Hawaii system. She also has taught courses related to online database searching and continues to provide bibliographic instruction for students and faculty in a variety of subject areas.

Johnson is the incoming president for the SLA's Hawaiian-Pacific Chapter.

In 1999, Johnson was the winner of the SLA Division of Information Technology's annual student award for her research on using Dialog services to analyze collection planning.

The Roger K. Summit Scholarships are awarded annually by Dialog in North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific region in honor of the company's founder, a pioneer in the technology behind online information retrieval. The scholarships are given to graduate students in accredited library and information science programs who exhibit academic achievement, keen interest in electronic information services and proficiency in using Dialog services and products, and also have strong recommendations from their faculty. Winners are determined by information professionals and educators based locally in each of the regions, and by Dialog staff.

The North American scholarship includes a US$5,000 prize.
