Dialog Announces 2003 Roger K. Summit Scholarship Winner

SYDNEY, NSW (22 January, 2003) — Dialog, a Thomson (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, today announced that Weiping Yue, originally from the People's Republic of China and now studying at the University of New South Wales, is the winner of the company's 2003 Roger K. Summit Scholarship award for the Asia Pacific region.

Dialog made the announcement during the Online Information 2003 conference, Australia's premier gathering of information industry professionals meeting here this week.

The scholarship is in honour of Roger K. Summit, the founder and former chairman of Dialog, an early pioneer in the technology behind electronic information retrieval.

"We are delighted that Weiping Yue has won this prestigious scholarship award," said Stuart Doig, Dialog vice president for Asia Pacific. "She has an outstanding record in her academic work, and we are pleased to be able to help her continue her studies and research."

At the University of New South Wales' School of Information Systems, Technology and Management, Weiping is pursuing her doctorate degree, researching techniques to measure the impact of research journals in a medical specialty using a structural equation modeling methodology to analyse data. She is also preparing a number of papers to be presented at professional conferences.

After graduating from the Heilongjiang University in Harbin, China, Weiping worked as a reference librarian at Harbin Medical University, providing information retrieval for academics, research students and clinicians. In 1997, she relocated to Sydney to begin her graduate studies at the University of New South Wales, where she earned her master's degree. Dialog awards three Roger K. Summit scholarships annually, one each in North America, Europe and Asia.
