Dialog to Highlight Information-Sharing Technologies at Enterprise Content Management Conference

LONDON (6 October 2004) — Dialog, a Thomson (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, will spotlight its information-sharing technologies at the Enterprise Content Management Conference meeting here this week.

Dialog has a roster of services available to corporations and other organisations wishing to harness information-sharing technologies to deliver high-quality, in-depth business information, news and market intelligence direct to the desktops of professionals and managers across its enterprise.

Among the services to be showcased at the conference are:

  • Dialog Application Programming Interface (API), a Web Service that enables appropriate segments of the extensive Dialog content collection and its search engine to be integrated transparently into Web sites, enterprise portals, corporate intranets and extranets, software applications and other interactive services.

  • Dialog eLinks, a tool that enables users to link seamlessly to abstracts and citations retrieved from databases found on Dialog® and Dialog DataStar™, two of the company's online services, to the fulltext of the referenced articles and conference proceedings published in scholarly and professional journals, mostly peer-reviewed scientific, technical and medical publications.

The electronic links connect from the Dialog services to libraries maintained by companies and other organisations for their in-house research, as well as to Web sites maintained by journal publishers or aggregators representing them. Sixty databases found on Dialog and Dialog DataStar are Dialog eLinks-equipped, with more than 11,000 journals able to be reached seamlessly. The range of research specialties available through Dialog eLinks includes agriculture, bio-medical, chemistry, economics, geology, mathematics and others.

  • DialogLink® 4.0, a recently upgraded version of the software package used by information professionals to integrate content retrieved from the Dialog service into real-life work situations, such as in management reports and corporate intranets and portals. New features recently added to DialogLink include XML output, new post-processing tools (that is, tools to manipulate retrieved information offline) and e-linking.

  • Dialog Portals, a next-generation information service that allows news, research and competitive intelligence to be integrated into enterprise portals. Dialog offers the deepest and richest set of content choices and information services for integration into industry-standard portal implementations. Dialog Portals is compatible with systems offered by nine leading portals software and applications providers, the broadest array available from any information services company in the portals market.

Dialog offers its information-sharing technologies to meet growing demand from corporations, government agencies and other organisations that are implementing enterprise-wide knowledge strategies.
