Dialog made the announcement at the Online Information 2004 conference meeting here this week. As part of its worldwide Quantum2 training and career development services for information professionals, Dialog each year recognises a select group of individuals from around the world as International InfoStars. (Separate awards are given to North American InfoStars.) The awards are given to people whose creativity and innovation are inspirational to others in the information field. "This is an outstanding group we are honouring in London this week," said Libby Trudell, Dialog senior vice president of information professional development. "Each has contributed to the success of their organisations. And each has, through unique examples, helped colleagues and peers achieve more in their own careers." Trudell offered details on the individual winners: "Minna Abrahamsson earlier this year was promoted to the position of information services manager, with global responsibility in the Library Services unit at Nokia Corporation. She has an open and fresh outlook to professional skills development and a willingness to embrace new ideas. She encourages initiative and innovation among her co-workers. Minna has successfully made the transition from academic librarian to a business information specialist. She is a strong advocate of networking and the power of relationship building within organisations and professional groups. "Christine Cameron, with more than 15 years experience in the medical information profession, was until recently European medical information manager heading the Haematology Business Unit at Novo Nordisk. Prior to that, she held departmental head positions at Serono and Elan. Christine's influence in the pharmaceutical information sector is extensive, having served as past president of the Association of Information Officers in the Pharmaceutical Industry. Christine is known for championing change and innovation. Her objective is to promote and drive the role of the 'new' information professional, and she works hard to forge alliances both with suppliers and users of information. Christine has recently joined Chiron Biopharmaceuticals as medical information manager for its European Medical Group. "Manuela Colombi of Janssen-Cilag SpA, a member of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, has been in the information profession for many years. In her role as manager of Scientific Documentation and the Pharmacovigilance Service in the medical department, she coordinates all of Janssen-Cilag SpA's scientific information procurement. Colombi is a member of Gruppo Italiano Documentalisti dell'industria Farmaceutica e degli Istituti di Ricerca Biomedica (Italian Group of Information Professionals in the Pharmaceutical sector). She has served the European Association for Health Information and Libraries as its president and currently sits on its International Executive Board. "Asahar Mohd Noor has been with PETRONAS, Malaysia's national oil corporation, as manager of the Petroleum Resource Centre for more than 17 years. He has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership in his organisation, responsible for the overall operations of his department and contributing his expertise to other PETRONAS Resource Centres groups. He also established and developed Malaysia's first Prime Ministers Library at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya. The library provides integrated information services and has a collection of the country's past policies, strategies and initiatives. "Vijaya K. Sundaram joined Cairn Energy India Pty Limited in 1997 with more than 15 years of industry experience. She developed various information management initiatives, including her company's IM InfoBank that provides customised access to key geological and exploration-related content directly from Dialog through desktops across the enterprise. She has also been proactive in highlighting the value of information services to senior management. Indeed, Cairn Energy's CEO recently said that the company's success in exploration has been due in part to its high-quality scientific expertise nurtured by the information management team. Vijaya is an active member of the largest and oldest library association in South India, the Madras Library Association, and is currently its secretary." -End- About Dialog and The Thomson Corporation Today, the online services provided by Dialog — offered through the Dialog®, Dialog Profound®, Dialog DataStar™, Dialog NewsEdge® and Dialog IntelliscopeSM brands — give users the ability to precisely retrieve data from more than 1.4 billion unique records, accessible via the Internet or through delivery to enterprise intranets.
