P R E S S R E L E A S E Dialog to Showcase New Interface & Services at Library Information Show in London LONDON (19 April 2004) — Dialog, a Thomson (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, said today that it will highlight the recently launched new platform for its line of business information, news and market research services as part of its exhibition at The Library + information Show meeting here this week. Dialog said that it will also highlight new versions of two of its services — Dialog Profound® and Dialog®NewsRoom — that are now operating with a new interface on the platform, enabling users of either service to conduct in-depth research across the differing content sets. Three other Dialog services — Dialog IntelliscopeSM, Dialog Company Profiles and Dialog NewsEdge® — also are now accessible through the shared interface, with new versions to be launched on the new platform later this year. Were eager to highlight our consolidated platform and new services at the Library Information show, said Ciaran Morton, Dialog executive vice president and the senior executive in charge of sales in Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Latin America. Our new interface is designed to make it easy for occasional researchers to find relevant information quickly while also serving the demanding needs of experienced professional searchers with powerful, more advanced search options. That new flexibility comes at an important time in the library community. Business professionals, students and others are asking for access to sophisticated research services but without the need for extensive training. At the same time, information professionals are being asked to do more for their organisations. With our new interface and services, we are helping both constituencies find the information they need to be successful. In addition to the unified interface and bundled content, the new platform also features SmartTerms™, a new taxonomy (or, indexing system) developed by Dialog for its business information, news and market research content. With more than 855,000 indexed terms, the new taxonomy enables researchers to generate highly relevant results from their online searches. It also includes advanced document hyper-linking features, which automatically suggest additional research options and facilitate in-depth research without interruption. Dialog also will highlight its new Dialog BillBack™ cost-recovery service. Dialog BillBack helps users track online research charges and generate usage reports for client invoicing or internal budgeting.
