Dialog Now Offering Streaming Real-Time News Through Enhanced Dialog NewsEdge® Service

Users Can Now Monitor Relevant Breaking News Without Disrupting Workflow

CARY, N.C., USA (September 29, 2004) — Dialog, a Thomson (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) business and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, said today that it is now offering streaming live news to subscribers of its Dialog NewsEdge® service.

Dialog NewsEdge users can now monitor breaking news stories throughout the day without disrupting their workflow.  Based on individual user profiles, Dialog NewsEdge filters thousands of wire services, pre-publication newspapers and other sources of news reporting from around the world, delivering relevant stories to a user's desktop instantly.  Scrolling news headlines can be read through a floating window or may be accessed through a tab labeled "My Live News."

The new feature is offered without additional charge to Dialog NewsEdge subscribers.

Dialog NewsEdge is a Web-based personalized news monitoring and current awareness platform designed for senior management; legal departments; competitive intelligence specialists; corporate communications and public relations departments; marketing managers; investor relations professionals; consultants and others who need access to daily news; breaking stories and a historical archive of articles and reports.

"With the addition of scrolling real-time news to Dialog NewsEdge, our clients  can now  track breaking news that could have an impact on their businesses — without having to be distracted from other responsibilities," said Cynthia Murphy, Dialog senior vice president, strategic marketing. "That enables them to know the day's critical news before the competition and to not be caught off guard by developing events, and, if necessary, to best manage crises more effectively. The live news feed can be a powerful catalyst for making better business decisions faster."

Murphy noted that specific uses of the new live news feed include monitoring media activity related to a user's company or its competitors, tracking mergers and acquisitions news, observing product and brand changes, reviewing earnings announcements, staying current with court rulings and regulatory announcements, and general awareness of industry events.

The content available through Dialog NewsEdge is indexed by a Dialog-proprietary taxonomy called SmartTermsSM.  More than 855,000 terms are tagged and classified in the system, an extensive roster designed to ensure accurate distribution of new reports and highly relevant search results.  A subscribing organization's internally created documents, such as materials produced by a corporate communications department, may also be indexed through SmartTerms and distributed through Dialog NewsEdge.

Dialog acquired NewsEdge Corporation, developers of the NewsEdge service, in 2001. Murphy noted that the new live news feature, as well other enhancements to be announced later in the year, represent the continued leveraging of the technical and editorial expertise acquired with NewsEdge Corporation.
