Plumtree's Real-Time News, Stocks and Weather Portlets Now Powered by Dialog

Portlet Suite Supports Customers and Partners Building Composite Applications Based on the Plumtree Enterprise Web Suite

CARY, N.C. and SAN FRANCISCO (September 29, 2004) — Plumtree Software (Nasdaq: PLUM) and Dialog, a Thomson business (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and a leading worldwide provider of online-based information services and integrated information solutions, today announced that real-time news, stocks and weather portlets in the Plumtree Enterprise Web Suite are now being powered by Dialog. Dialog offers content from 900 databases handling 700,000 searches and delivering 17 million document page views per month. Plumtree customers and partners can use the portlet suite to assemble composite applications with relevant and personalized news, a large selection of stock and market indices, and five-day weather forecasts for U.S. and international cities. With easy access to real-time information, the portlet suite improves return on Enterprise Web investments by increasing traffic and stickiness to a wide range of applications built on Plumtree's framework.

"The new portlets provide a high quality of content and are more intuitive to configure," said Chad Jackson, NetJets Portal Administrator and Plumtree customer. "Our users find it very convenient to receive multiple news feeds through a single portlet."

Plumtree Portlet Suite for News, Stocks and Weather

The new portlet suite accelerates time to market of composite applications by eliminating the development time and costs associated with integrating and supporting news, stocks and weather content. Customers can add contextual news to composite applications built within the Plumtree environment and allow end-users to add custom news, stocks and weather to their personalized portal pages. For example, a customer could build an executive dashboard application and offer access to news, stocks and market indices affecting their industry or their top customers.

The portlet suite consists of:

  • News Portlets — Offering news articles that are continuously updated as events occur around the world. Dialog's team of expert editors ensures the highest relevancy possible by hand selecting articles from leading global news sources. Users can personalize content by choosing the topics that are most relevant to them and selecting the number of headlines to view. Users can also access a 30-day news archive.
  • Stock Portlet — Providing access to more than 40 global market indices. Users can select the companies and indices to monitor and their order of appearance in the portlet. Users can also view price and volume charts, real-time company-specific news and a 30-day company news archive.
  • Weather Portlet — Delivers five-day weather forecasts for most U.S. cities and 500 international cities. Users can view the weather for up to five cities simultaneously and conduct a quick search to check the weather in additional cities.

"Our alliance with Plumtree is already providing joint customers with access to indispensable information, insight and solutions to help make them more successful," said Dialog's Charles White, vice president of alliances. "We know the value of having all the information you need at your fingertips through the portal. This new offering will help Plumtree customers bring the most important news to the right people at the right time."

"Dialog is a market leader in the corporate information space, so we're pleased to offer their top-notch information services to our customers," said Jay Simons, Plumtree's vice president of product strategy. "Nearly all Plumtree customers include industry news, a stock portfolio and local weather portlets in their deployments. With Dialog, customers and partners can assemble killer applications that integrate essential content with a variety of systems and businesses."
