Summit Scholarship for the Asia Pacific region to four students from Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore. The AUS$5,000 joint award will be used to help cover expenses for the four students as they attend a 12-week library studies program at the Royal School of Library and Information Science in Denmark, one of the worlds largest centres of teaching and research in the specialties of library and information sciences. The programme runs from August to November 2004. The four Temasek Polytechnic students are Tan Ching Hsing Dominic, Tabitha Isaac, Padmani d/o Visayakumaran and Boon Hui Fei. Each is enrolled in Temaseks Diploma in Information Management programme. We are delighted to award this years scholarship to these four outstanding students from Singapore, said Libby Trudell, Dialog senior vice president of information professional development, based in the United States. It is unusual for us to make a four-person joint award, but given their outstanding records at Temasek Polytechnic and their acceptance into the programme in Denmark, we decided to help them study in Europe, Trudell said. Each of these individuals has tremendous potential in the field of library and information management, and the opportunity for international study will provide unique enrichment and perspective. The scholarship is in honour of Roger K. Summit, the founder and former chairman of Dialog, an early pioneer in the technology behind electronic information retrieval who today is chairman emeritus for the company. Dialog awards three scholarships annually, one each in North America, the Europe and Middle East region, and the Asia Pacific region. The scholarships are part of the companys Quantum2 programme that offers professional education and career development services to information professionals worldwide. -End- About Dialog and The Thomson Corporation Today, the online services provided by Dialog offered through the Dialog®, Dialog Profound®, Dialog DataStar, Dialog NewsEdge® and Dialog IntelliscopeSM brands give users the ability to precisely retrieve data from more than 1.4 billion unique records, accessible via the Internet or through delivery to enterprise intranets.
