Summit Scholarship for the Americas. Dialog awards two scholarships annually, one each to a graduate student enrolled in an accredited library or information sciences program in the Americas and one in Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East or Africa. Criteria include demonstrated academic achievement, keen interest in electronic information services, proficiency using Dialog online services and strong faculty recommendations. Dialog made the announcement during a ceremony at the Annual Conference of the Special Libraries Association meeting here this week. "We're delighted to award this year's Americas scholarship to Laura," said Libby Trudell, Dialog senior vice president of information professional development. "In addition to her remarkable academic career, Laura is truly a citizen of the world. Virtually all of us are impacted by the globalization of business, and Laura's international perspective no doubt will help in her career as information professional." Tuers last summer interned at the American Library in Paris. She has also lived and studied in Switzerland, Germany, Finland and China. Before her current studies at UCLA, Tuers earned a Masters of Business Administration from Thunderbird, the Garvin School of International Management in Glendale, Arizona. Her undergraduate degree is from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where she majored in German and minored in Government. "I decided to pursue a degree from UCLA in order to be better prepared to help connect people with information and promote lifelong learning," Tuers said. "Dialog is a great partner in that endeavor and I am thrilled to have been chosen for the scholarship." -End- About Dialog and The Thomson Corporation Today, the online services provided by Dialog — offered through the Dialog®, Dialog Profound®, Dialog DataStar®, Dialog NewsEdge® and Dialog Intelliscope® brands — give users the ability to precisely retrieve data from more than 1.4 billion unique records, accessible via the Internet or through delivery to enterprise intranets.
