SLA-Australia/New Zealand Names Nerida Hart Info Pro of the Year

Dialog-Sponsored Award Honours Government Knowledge Specialist

CANBERRA, ACT, AUSTRALIA (12 July 2005) — Nerida Hart, the director of Knowledge and Information Services at the Australian Department of Family and Community Services, is the Special Libraries Association/Australia-New Zealand Chapter's (SLA/ANZ) Information Professional of the Year for 2005.

The Dialog-sponsored award was announced today at the Australian Government Libraries Information Network conference meeting this week in Canberra. The award includes a cash prize of AUD$2000.00.

"We are delighted to honour Nerida Hart for her outstanding accomplishments as an information professional," said Sue Henczel, SLA/ANZ chapter president. "She has done a remarkable job of continually reinventing and developing her library's services to best meet her department's objectives, all while delivering exceptional service."

Henczel added that with government libraries under budget pressures, Hart has embraced the "possibilities of the knowledge management revolution" to make sure that her library is not just a repository of information but also offers the tools and resources to help its users readily harness knowledge in their professional pursuits.

"Nerida is not afraid of change, and that is a model for all of us in the information field," said Henczel.

The Australian Department of Family and Community Services' Knowledge and Information Service serves about 40,000 clients in various government agencies. The Service offers a portfolio of online research and information-sharing services, including daily alerts and customisable profiles.

"We are pleased to support the 'Information Professional of the Year Award' programme in conjunction with the Australia/New Zealand chapter of SLA," said Liz Blankson-Hemans, director, international information professional development, Dialog. "The notion that information professionals have the ability to be agents of change is one we endorse. In every market around the world where Dialog services are available, we are working with information professionals to expand their skills and to be recognised for their contributions."

The Dialog-sponsored award programme is open to information professionals, such as corporate and government librarians, independent information consultants, knowledge managers and others, working and living in Australia or New Zealand. A panel of SLA/ANZ board members and Dialog management determine the winner.

Dialog is active throughout Australia and New Zealand.
