Summit Scholarship for North America to Kim MacInnis, a graduate student from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada. The announcement was made at a special ceremony at the 2007 Annual Conference of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) meeting. The US$5,000 award will help MacInnis to continue to pursue a joint master's degree in Library and Information Studies and Business Administration. She is only the second student at Dalhousie to pursue such a joint degree. Thomson Scientific awards two scholarships annually, one each to a graduate student enrolled in an accredited library or information sciences program in the Americas and one in Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Africa. The Scholarship is named in honor of Dialog founder Roger K. Summit, a pioneer in developing the technology behind online information retrieval. "Kim has already accomplished a great deal in her academic and professional career, and it is an honor to present her with the 2007 Roger K. Summit Scholarship Award," said Libby Trudell, senior vice president of information professional market development. "In awarding this scholarship, we look for people who will make an impact on the information profession, and Kim has demonstrated a commitment to the profession and a grasp of business essentials." MacInnis has spent most of her library career to date working in special libraries within the federal and provincial governments and in the healthcare sector. In March, she led a student organized information management conference. After completing her degree, she plans to focus on helping small and medium-sized businesses facilitate the integration and best use of electronic information. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and anthropology from Mount Saint Vincent University, Nova Scotia, and Library and Information Technology Diploma from the Nova Scotia Community College. "Receiving the Roger K. Summit scholarship is a great honor, and I am delighted to be this year's recipient," MacInnis said.
