Philadelphia, PA USA–London UK, December
5, 2007 — Thomson Scientific, part
of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC)
and leading provider of information solutions to
the worldwide research and business communities,
has announced the three recipients of its 2007
International Quantum2 InfoStar Awards, which
are presented annually to information professionals
whose achievements demonstrate leadership and inspire
others in their industry. This year's recipients,
as announced during a special ceremony at the Online
Information 2007 conference this week in London,
are:
- Dr. Pawel Grochowski, assistant professor, Interdisciplinary
Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling,
Warsaw University (Poland), praised for his work
as coordinator of the Virtual Library of Science
program at the university, which is funded by the
Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The aim
of the program is to create a repository of international
knowledge resources offered in leading scientific
databases and electronic scientific journal collections.
The program currently serves 78 member institutions.
Dr. Grochowski obtained his Ph.D. in physics at
Warsaw University in 1997. He has published numerous
scientific papers in international journals and
book series.
- Dennie Heye, information scientist, Shell International
Exploration and Production B.V. (Netherlands),
recognized for creating a network of information
professionals — from both research and technology — within
his organization. As a result of his expertise
and enthusiasm, Heye has gained commitment for
a standardized library system, coordinated library
software requirements as an important step toward
that goal and also has successfully centralized
information contracts. Heye has written a book
entitled Characteristics of the Successful
21 st Century Information Professional, which
was published in March 2006.
- Ashima Aggarwal, knowledge manager, Evalueserve,
(India), honored for successfully creating the
Knowledge Management department in her organization.
As a result of her effective strategy, the team
has grown to about 30 information professionals
that manage all aspects of research and the knowledge
management function. Additionally, she designed
a knowledge management system that covers all areas
of the knowledge cycle including creation, storage,
access and dissemination. Aggarwal has also been
successful in driving the knowledge management
strategy across the other two Evalueserve sites
in China and Chile.
"These winners exemplify the qualities we
look for in information professionals — strategic,
proactive, innovative and inspirational," said
Libby Trudell, senior vice president, market development. "Their
outstanding leadership has had a tremendous impact
on the success of their organization's information
management initiatives. It gives us great pleasure
to recognize their achievements with the InfoStar
Awards."
