Thomson Scientific Awards 2008 Quantum2 InfoStar Award To Ohio Librarian

Brian Gray of Case Western Reserve University Acknowledged for Innovation, Inspiration and Leadership

January 12, 2008 (Cary, North Carolina and London, UK) — Thomson Scientific, part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and leading provider of information solutions to the worldwide research and business communities, has awarded the 2008 Quantum2 InfoStar Award to Brian Gray, Head of Reference and Librarian (Engineering, Math, & Statistics) of Kelvin Smith Library at Case Western Reserve University. The announcement will be made at a special ceremony at the ALA Midwinter meeting on January 12 in Philadelphia.

As part of its Quantum2 program that offers leadership development services to information professionals worldwide, Thomson Scientific annually designates recipients of its InfoStar Awards in various regions around the world. Key characteristics of winners include: strategic involvement in an organization, proactive relationship building, innovative information services and continuous change and development.

"Brian's outstanding achievements go beyond professional interest," said Libby Trudell, senior vice president, market development at Thomson Scientific. "His passion and exceptional leadership have impacted his organization and the industry as a whole. We congratulate Brian on his past success and wish him well in his future."

Gray received his master's degree in Library Information Sciences from Kent State University and currently serves as Head of Reference and the Engineering, Mathematics, and Statistics Librarian at the Kelvin Smith Library of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He recently began teaching "Using Web 2.0 Principles to Become Librarian 2.0," for the Kent State University School of Library & Information Science. He was chosen as a participant in the 2006 American Library Association Library 2.0 Bootcamp that was developed to explore how libraries and/or associations could use Web 2.0 tools effectively. Gray is the current web coordinator for the Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA) of ALA, and maintains a personal blog that covers engineering resources and Web 2.0 in libraries.
