Dialog Launches File History Linking and Options for Open URL 1.0 Just the beginning of new product enhancements ahead December 2, 2008 (Cary, North Carolina and London, UK) — Dialog, a leader in online information services for professional searchers, announced a variety of product enhancements at London’s Online Information conference. The enhancements, the first major product changes since Dialog’s acquisition by ProQuest in July, include File History Linking and a new option for the Open URL 1.0 standard in Dialog’s eLinks service. “The work ahead at Dialog is to recommit ourselves to information intermediaries — providing products and services that make their searches more precise and more productive,” said Suzanne BeDell, Dialog general manager. “These enhancements are just the beginning. Our goal is for Dialog to leap ahead with products that innovate and move the entire market forward.” Dialog’s new File History Linking service enhances Dialog’s expansive trademark research files. With File History Linking, users can access a “file wrapper” — a comprehensive record of the history of a patent or trademark application including legal status information — directly from any patent record in all Dialog patent files, including US trademark records in TrademarkScan – U.S. (File 226). The linking enables users to skip steps in the research process by delivering more comprehensive data in a single search. Dialog’s popular eLinks service, which hyperlinks from an abstract record directly to full text, now allows customers to choose the Open URL 1.0 standard for accessing links, or to continue to use the default URL 0.1 standard. The Open URL 1.0 is the state-of-the art standard, supporting a higher percentage of links with fewer technical issues. The 1.0 further enhances eLink’s ability to streamline retrieval of full text of article. For more information, Online conferees can attend Dialog’s on-stand presentation on Tuesday 2nd December at 10:30am to get an update on early tangible results of the alignment between Dialog and ProQuest.
