Statistics New Zealand’s Stent is 2009 winner of SLA Australia/New Zealand Information Pro Award

Winner is honored at SLA Conference and Centennial Celebration

June 14, 2009 (Washington, DC) — Dialog, a leader in online information services for professional searchers, announced that Claire Stent, of Statistics New Zealand, is the winner of the 2009 Information Professional of the Year by the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Australia and New Zealand Chapter. The announcement was made during the SLA 2009 conference and centennial celebration in Washington D.C. Ms. Stent receives a cash prize from Dialog of AUD$2,000.

Ms. Stent is being honored for her creative use of library management software and other commonly available tools to improve both the efficiency of her small staff and its service to their organization. With innovative self-service training methods and a centralized set of RSS feeds, Ms. Stent conquered problems faced by information professionals around the world: urgent and time-consuming work for a small segment of the library’s service population. Statistics New Zealand’s library’s challenges are such common workplace issues and Ms. Stent’s solutions so simple and effective that she now runs seminars for other librarians to learn her blend of commonplace technologies to achieve efficiencies.

“Claire typifies the savvy of a genuine information pro: she identifies bottlenecks and erases them with ingenious applications of everyday technology,” said Liz Blankson-Hemans, Dialog’s Director, Information Professional Development. “It’s an honor to present her with this year’s award.”

Dialog has sponsored the SLA  Australia and New Zealand Chapter Information Professional of the Year Award since 2004. It’s part of the company larger, time-honored program of awards and honors for information professionals. The award is open to information professionals, such as public, corporate and government librarians, independent information consultants, knowledge managers and others, working and living in Australia or New Zealand. A panel of SLA  Australia and New Zealand board members and Dialog representatives determine the winner.
