Dialog Takes NewsRoom Enterprise-Wide

Dialog NewsRoom® Plus integrates classic Dialog content in an end-user friendly interface

June 14, 2009 (Morrisville, North Carolina) – Dialog, a leader in online information services for professional searchers, launched Dialog NewsRoom® Plus, an innovative twist that takes the company’s classic Dialog NewsRoom database to an enterprise-wide level. Dialog NewsRoom Plus integrates premium global news content along with quality information from the open Web in a single, desktop source accessible across entire organizations.

“Until now, information professionals and end-users alike have had to access multiple sources — Web, print, video — to get a full picture of important events. That’s not only time-wasting, it’s error prone; you could easily miss a significant piece of data,” said Suzanne BeDell, Dialog General Manager. “Dialog Newsroom Plus makes finding the right information more efficient, more comprehensive and it brings that process improvement to the whole organization.”

Called “a real end-user ‘news search’ solution” by VIP reviewers Jill Fenton and Pam Foster, Dialog NewsRoom Plus uses a fast, intuitive interface to simultaneously search an extraordinary range of global business and news sources, including 35 million hours of video and 20 billion Web documents. Since Dialog NewsRoom Plus is open to anyone in an organization, Dialog has included two search forms—easy and advanced—to bridge the gap between information professional and novice. Dialog’s lauded precision searching extends to video through an inventive technology that allows users to search transcribed audio and images. In this way users can search for phrases or keywords they may have heard during a television or radio broadcast

Results are displayed in a tabular format, allowing users to separate print, video and Web data. Users can choose to link to a summary or the full text of the article, which can be displayed in any number of formats, including HTML, PDF, Microsoft® Word and XML. Further, alerts can be set for any topic—and all alerts can be viewed in a single table, making it easy for users to see what they’re monitoring.

Dialog NewsRoom Plus offers a desktop option that allows Dialog news content to be used across organizations. Dialog’s other classic news products, including Dialog NewsRoom, continue as staples for information professionals who want to mix news with other classic Dialog content, using Dialog powerful precision search tools.
