Dialog Celebrates First Anniversary with ProQuest Company assesses progress at one year mark June 14, 2009 (Washington, DC) — Dialog, a leader in online information services for professional searchers, is celebrating the Special Libraries Association's Centennial with an anniversary of its own: one year as part of the ProQuest family. In that time, Dialog has revived and strengthened a variety of important products, services and traditions; expanded access for corporate libraries to significant ProQuest content; and, commenced new initiatives that will drive the company's future. "We're using the one-year anniversary here at the SLA conference to look back through the past year at our accomplishments, the new directions we've taken, and our expectations for the future," said Suzanne BeDell, who was appointed Dialog general manager in July 2008. "I'm deeply proud of this year's progress and excited about what's ahead. In addition to welcoming a new leader in the past year, Dialog moved into a new headquarters location in Morrisville, North Carolina, and a new office for its London operation. Customer needs were kept foremost as Dialog implemented a pricing freeze in March to address the tough economic situation and provided smart searching ideas every month to help customers get the most from their Dialog content. Both Dialog® and Datastar® were enhanced with new content, including the return of The Lancet®, expanded access to CSA databases and new journal sources in ABI/INFORM®, as well as patents from Taiwan and trademarks from China. Dialog also expanded market access to ProQuest's rich variety of authoritative, full-text resources, becoming the sales agent into the North American corporate market for ProQuest products that complement Dialog's information products. The company topped off the year with the release of an enterprise-wide version of its seminal NewsRoom file. Featuring a Web 2.0 interface, NewsRoom Plus brings powerful Dialog content to every user in an organization. In October 2008, Dialog reinstated its popular newsletter, The Chronolog, which keeps customers up to date with features such as the Free File of the Month, new content, products and training opportunities, search techniques and analysis of content areas by subject specialists. Further, Dialog reaffirmed its commitment to the information professional community through the continuation of its Quantum2 Leadership Development and Graduate Education programs. It also expanded association sponsorships, partnering with ProQuest as a major sponsor of SLA's 2009 conference, and continued awards, including InfoStars and Roger K. Summit Scholarship for graduate students, which are being presented at the Washington conference. High on the agenda for the future is a refreshment of Dialog's search platforms — evolving them to meet the needs of a new generation of search professional. Plans are already in the works for this major company initiative. "We knew from the outset that this was an excellent match of strengths and commitment to the library market," said Ms. BeDell. "Just one short year later, we're seeing that very positive synergy in action. We're seeing Dialog powered by ProQuest... and we're just getting started." About Dialog Dialog, LLC, part of the ProQuest (www.proquest.com) family of brands, is headquartered in Morrisville, North Carolina, with offices in Sunnyvale, California, and London. |
