Dialog Announces Roger K. Summit Scholarship Winners

Team of Velletri and Labat will complete degree in Geneva with help from Dialog

December 1, 2009 (Morrisville, North Carolina, and London) — Dialog, a leader in online information services for professional searchers, has awarded the 2009 Roger K. Summit Scholarship for the Europe, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Africa region to Maurizio Velletri and Nicolas Labat, joint applicants from the Haute Ecole de Gestion (School of Business Administration at the University of Applied Sciences) in Geneva, Switzerland. The academic structure of this acclaimed institute encourages group work from the second year through graduation. Mr. Velletri and Mr. Labat will graduate in July 2010. Their scholarship was presented at a ceremony at the Online Information conference in London.

Mr. Velletri’s and Mr. Labat’s winning application detailed their research project on RFID technology, particularly its application in libraries to extend Web-like links to physical items.

"This scholarship is aimed at ensuring that students such as Maurizio and Nicolas, with their fresh look at and uses for technology — are welcomed into our community,” said Libby Trudell, vice president, market development. "Their research is intriguing, exciting and has ‘future’ written all over it.”

Dialog’s flagship scholarship program is named in honor of Dialog’s founder Roger K. Summit, a pioneer in developing the technology behind online information retrieval. Two scholarships are awarded annually, one to a graduate student enrolled in an accredited library or information sciences program in the Americas and one in Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Africa. Scholarship winners must fulfill a number of criteria that include demonstrating proficiency in using Dialog® on-line services, academic achievement, and interest in the field of electronic information services.
