Dialog Announces Recipients of 2010 North American InfoStar Awards Winners are honored at SLA Annual Conference June 13, 2010 (New Orleans) — Dialog, a leader in online information services for professional searchers, announced the recipients of its 2010 North American Quantum2 InfoStar Awards at a champagne reception at the Special Libraries Association Annual Conference in New Orleans. The awards, a Dialog tradition dating from 2001, are presented annually to information professionals whose achievements demonstrate leadership and inspire others in their industry. This year's recipients are Deborah K. Balsamo, National Library Network Program Manager, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; Paul Roemhild, Research Information Analyst, Avery Dennison; and, Lynn Donches, Chief Librarian, Rodale, Inc. "The goal of the InfoStars award is to showcase innovation in the professional community served by Dialog," said Libby Trudell, Vice President, Market Development. "Deborah, Paul and Lynn model this innovation in action. They demonstrate the kind of passion and creativity that enables information services to make organizations stronger, smarter and more efficient." While this year's InfoStars are remarkable in unique ways, nominations from their colleagues cite a common thread — enthusiastic outreach to customers, layered with a deep understanding of their needs and those of the organization. For example, Ms. Donches worked with internal audiences to determine gaps in critical information and, then, translated the needs in a way that made it easy for the organization to fill them with new databases. Mr. Roemhild is known in Avery Dennison for his enthusiasm and the global network that's bolstered by visits with internal customers around the world to inform them of his team's role, describe levels of assistance, and show the tools they have set up for them. Ms. Balsamo, who leads a network of agency libraries that serves both EPA staff and the general public, is being recognized for her leadership in the continual transformation of the structure of the EPA National Library Network, enabling it to more effectively meet the needs of its users. For example, in 2009, the library network implemented the innovative "Ask a Librarian" virtual reference service that provides live chat with various EPA Network libraries across the country on a rolling schedule.
