Gillian Hallam Earns 2011 Information Pro Award for SLA Australia & New Zealand Chapter Dialog honors winner at SLA Conference June 12, 2010 (Morrisville, NC) — Dialog, a ProQuest business unit supporting professional research, announced that Dr. Gillian Hallam, Information Consultant and Adjunct Professor with Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Australia, is the winner of the 2011 Information Professional of the Year by the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Australia and New Zealand Chapter. The announcement was made during the SLA 2011 conference in Philadelphia. Dr. Hallam receives a cash prize from Dialog of AUD$2,000. "Gillian models the highest standards of professionalism," said Liz Blankson-Hemans, Dialog's Director, Marketing, International. "Her passion and focus can been seen by her leadership in the many projects she's led on workforce planning issues. This is work that will impact generations of information professionals. Further, she is generous with her time, elevating the entire industry. " Judges were impressed by Dr. Hallam's extensive work in the special library sector, notably within the health library sector, her energy and focus in motivating and encouraging professional development, and for her mentoring skills and guidance across a range of sectors. She is the principal researcher and project leader of the Health Libraries Australia's workforce education project, a comprehensive study into the future skills requirements in the health library sector. Widely involved in library associations, she most recently served on the ALIA Board of Directors as an executive member of the Education and Training Section and the eLearning Special Interest Group with the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA). Dialog has sponsored the SLA Australia and New Zealand Chapter Information Professional of the Year Award since 2004. It's part of the company's larger, time-honored program of awards and honors for information professionals. The award is open to information professionals, such as public, corporate and government librarians, independent information consultants, knowledge managers and others, working and living in Australia or New Zealand.
