Dialog Announces Recipients of 2011 North American InfoStar Awards

Winners are honored at SLA Annual Conference

June 12, 2011 (Morrisville, North Carolina) — Dialog, a ProQuest business unit supporting professional research, announced the recipients of its 2011 North American Quantum2 InfoStar Awards at a champagne reception at the Special Libraries Association Annual Conference in Philadelphia. The awards, a Dialog tradition dating from 2001, are presented annually to information professionals whose achievements demonstrate leadership and inspire others in their industry. This year's recipients are Don Boman of intellectual property law firm Kenyon and Kenyon, LLP., Jane Killian of the FBI library, and Nancy Muir of Medimmune, a Maryland-based biotechnology firm.

"InfoStars awards showcase innovators in the professional community served by Dialog... people who think about information service in new ways," said Libby Trudell, Dialog, Vice President, Marketing. "Don, Jane and Nancy show a remarkable level of creativity and deep understanding of their clients' needs. Each excels at showing their organizations just how essential information services are to success."

  • Jane Killian's colleagues at the FBI's Laboratory's Quality Assurance and Training Unit in Quantico, Virginia describe her as dedicated, diligent, and "a crucial element in delivering the information needed for the laboratory's day-to-day activities." She has elevated the role of the library through her consistent outreach to other departments, ensuring they understand the services available to them.
  • Similarly, Ms. Muir has built a welcoming presence for her firm's research library and its services. She is a tireless advocate for training and education not only for colleagues in her firm, but for her entire region through the founding of a Maryland-based library group that meets regularly to share ideas to help promote the role and services of library professionals.
  • In his firm, Mr. Boman has become an advocate for technology and change. He embraces blog alerts, news alerts, Twitter hash pages, patent, trademark and copyright alerts, and checks Wikipedia change logs to generate a consistent flow of information. His colleagues report that he is pivotal in helping the entire firm navigate a clogged information highway in a way that keeps quality high and costs low.
