Full Text Linking
Dialog@Site Appropriate Copy

When using bibliographic databases an abstract record is sometimes not enough. For the complete picture you need to view the full-text article — and ideally straight away. Now, with the full text linking service from Dialog@Site, you can.

The key to fast, efficient, economical retrieval of the full text articles is making sure you are ALWAYS offered the copy of the full text article in the way that is most appropriate to your needs. Dialog@Site's full text linking service is the only solution that guarantees this levelling of access options.

With Dialog@Site users are presented with 3 full text delivery alternatives:

  • eLinking — direct link from abstract article to e-journal you subscribe to
  • Local Holdings — if no e-journal subscription, locate document in your internal library holdings
  • Document delivery — if document is not owned or available from local holdings, obtain through Document Delivery service

Dialog has partnered with more than 600 publishers and aggregators to provide electronic links from Dialog@Site to the electronic journals to which you subscribe. In this way, Dialog@Site now provides immediate access to the most comprehensive range of key abstract databases available in the fields of Energy, Engineering and Materials PLUS full-text articles from your key journals. A powerful combination!

eLinking

Linking to your e-journal subscriptions via Dialog@Site brings a number of distinct advantages:

  • e-linking is FREE OF CHARGE! You subscribe to your chosen OnDisc databases from Dialog and you subscribe separately to your chosen e-journals — from publishers or aggregators. You do NOT pay extra for the linking between these subscriptions! e-linking is a part of the Dialog@Site software and is entirely free-of-charge.

  • No Dead Links — It would be very annoying and frustrating for your users if they were to follow a link through to an e-Document — only to find that they did not have access to it. This will not happen with Dialog@Site's e-linking. Dialog@Site ONLY generates URLs for your titles, via your chosen sources. This works equally well on agent-hosted or locally hosted databases.

  • Realtime Generated URLs — By using dynamic rulebases of URL links (as opposed to a static database of URL links) you can be sure that as new e-titles are added around the world, the links will immediately be available to you.

  • URLinks Server — The URL is in fact generated by a central URL links Server (as opposed to having multiple static copies at customer sites). Dialog@Site therefore dynamically generates the correct URL for you every time. There is no static locally stored "links" database which would go out-of-date as soon as it is published.

Local Holdings

The full text of the reference you retrieve may well be in your own library in the form of a print journal for instance. Dialog@Site 5.3 can be programmed to inform you when this is the case so that you are immediately alerted to the presence of the original document in your library — a great way of maximizing your investment in print journals!

Document Delivery

Through document delivery suppliers such as the British Library Document Supply Centre (BLDSC) and The Canada Institute of Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI), you can get the full text of your references sent to you via email, fax or post.
