New fields improve tracking of record dates

record datesTwo new fields—Updated and First Available—on ProQuest Dialog help you keep better track of record dates.

“Updated” reflects when the publisher changed a document. The field contains the first loading date as well as multiple update dates. If a document has been amended or changed over time, it is useful to understand the publication history. For example, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) submits numerous “revisions” for MEDLINE®, which can include spelling corrections, addition of CAS® Registry numbers to chemicals, addition of ISSNs, and other changes. “Updated” replaces “Last Updated” on search forms.

“First Available” is the date the record was first made available for searching, or first loaded, in a particular database on ProQuest Dialog.  This allows users to isolate searches by availability in a particular database or group of databases, which is a benefit since publishers often provide content with a wide range of publication dates. Once the document is loaded, the First Available date does not change.

To search the fields, enter the syntax as follows:

New field “First Available” FAV is the field code. Range searchable.

new field: first available

New field “Updated” UD is the field code. Range searchable.

new field: updated

The new fields are searchable via drop lists in both Advanced and Command Line Search.
